Holiday parks or camping grounds as they were previously called are spread throughout New Zealand with major concentrations in popular holiday locations.
They are typically found on large land areas so as to allow for the pitching of tents, parking of caravans and mobile homes as well as for siting cabins and other accommodation and amenity buildings.
They provide an affordable holiday choice for those prepared to share facilities and do with many of the niceties.
Due to the large land areas and often prime locations many holiday parks have disappeared over the years to make way for more intensive residential and apartment developments.
Sometimes the land is owned by the local Council and let to an operator to run as a holiday park.
They are a popular holiday choice for many New Zealanders and the businesses are often very profitable.
