West Coast Treetop Walkway and Cafe is a drawcard tourism operation on the West Coast of the South Island, located in Hokitika and overlooking Lake Mahinapua. The 450m walkway, situated mainly on DOC land, under a long lease, is set 20 metres in the air. The tower reaching 45 metres from the forest floor is a highlight, with a sensational vista of the Southern Alps and the Tasman Sea.
In operation for close to 10 years, visitor numbers have increased and approval is now in place for the addition and construction of a 400-metre zipline to bring an enhanced experience, which in turn will see an increase in visitor numbers and an expected revenue increase from $1.2m to $1.6m.
